Microdermabrasion Treatments For Healthy Skin
Microdermabrasion Treatments for Better Skin
Microdermabrasion treatments are done to remove dead skin cells and promote growth of a new layer of the skin.
It is one of the skin care treatments commonly used in effectively removing dead cells and it has been around for many years now as a facial skin care treatment.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that uses small crystals to remove the superficial dead skin cells, thereby exposing a new layer of skin.
It also encourages the production of collagen to complement the new layer of skin.
This helps give you a younger, firmer, tighter and healthier-looking skin without inflicting too much pain on the patient.
Compared to dermabrasion, microdermabrasion is a gentler procedure.
Dermabrasion is used for deeper layers of the skin and is effective for wrinkles, fine lines and saggy skin.
Basically, anyone can undergo a microdermabrasion treatment. However, it depends on the condition you are in at the time you are about to seek the treatment.
Of course, those with grossly infected skin lesions cannot have microdermabrasion treatment on an afflicted area. It will only cause more infection and more damage on the affected area.
Doctors do not recommend microdermabrasion treatment for patients who are pregnant, or who are breast-feeding or who are taking oral contraceptive hormones.
Hormones can change the effect of the treatment and could actually inhibit the cells from forming new ones.
It is best to wait until the hormones are at a pre-conception and normal level before getting a microdermabrasion treatment.
Microdermabrasion can be used for oily skin, enlarged pores, clogged pores, very fine lines, mild scars and pigmentation problems with minimal side effects.
While microdermabrasion can easily be done by anyone, procedures like this should preferably be carried out by a professional.
Unsterile instruments may lead to infection of the skin and may cause worse problems that will give you ugly results which in turn would be more difficult to treat, making the overall treatment much more expensive than you had originally anticipated.
It is important that you seek medical advice at the right place and with the right person. Read about the procedure and ask your doctor questions if you do not understand something about it.
Microdermabrasion treatments can be done in as short as thirty minutes with little or no side effects. The procedure is almost painless and does not require topical anesthetics before the procedure.
Side effects, if present, could be swelling of the treated face, redness and a burning sensation.
It is a very fast procedure and you can immediately go back to work, if needs be, after the treatment.
If the side effects do not subside immediately or are very intense for you, you can always place ice packs on the treated areas to alleviate the pain.
Should it be you really cannot tolerate these effects, ask for a pain medication from your doctor.
Precautions should be met in performing the procedure, and these could include, but not limited to:
- Covering the eyes with a protective cover during the procedure will prevent the crystals from getting into your eyes.
- Machine settings should be set to a level that will only remove the dead skin cells and not penetrate the skin with the crystals. If this happens and there is a break in the skin, this could lead to an infection.
It is recommended that you avoid contact with dirty objects, exposure to pollution and make sure that the treated area is clean at all times.
Sun exposure should be avoided because this may alter the effects of the microdermabrasion treatment.
Microdermabrasion treatments may seem attractive because of its easy and faster delivery ad minimal side effects but not all people get satisfactory results, so it is advisable to check for other procedure that best suits your skin condition.
